An Approved Education Provider is a primary/secondary school or tertiary institution officially recognised by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) or the Ministry of Education to offer programmes of study.

The quickest way to apply is online — most online student visa applications are processed in about 20 working days, while paper applications can take around 25 working days. Processing times may be longer depending on circumstances.

If your documents are not in English, you must submit:
  • A certified English translation, and A copy of the original document
Translations may be done by translation services such as:
  • Translation service of the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA)
  • An embassy or high commission
  • A certified private translation business
  • Translations cannot be prepared by you, a family member, or your education agent.

The New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF) is the national system that defines and classifies all recognised qualifications in New Zealand — from certificates to doctoral degrees. It has 10 levels, with Level 1 being entry-level and Level 10 being the most advanced.
Qualifications on the NZQF are quality-assured and recognised both in New Zealand and internationally.

Approval in Principle (AIP) means Immigration New Zealand has conditionally approved your visa, but still requires documents (such as your passport or fee receipts) before the visa can be fully granted. Your visa is not final until all requested documents are received and the visa is issued.
